The Pivot feature allows you to rearrange Dimensions and Metrics within Table and Metric Views. When you’re done customizing the View the way you want it,  you can save it for future use in Grids, KPIs, or Charts on Boards.

Watch this video to find out more about how to use Pivot in Pigment.

Access Pivot

  • When working directly in Metrics and Tables, click Pivot in the Block header.
  • When working on a Board, expand the Block and click Pivot.

This opens the Pivot tab in the Configure Data panel. The panel has three different sections: Pages, Columns, and Rows. The Pages section displays Items in a Page Selector located above your grid. When you move elements to and from each section, your Block View changes.

Moving Dimensions

You can drag and drop Dimensions into each different section to adjust your View. You can also use the plus (+) sign next to each section to add a Dimension.

Here are some considerations when moving Dimensions in Pivot:

  • If you want to review one Item of a Dimension at a time, or a total, move that Dimension to Page. For example, if you want to analyze your data by individual product, you would set the Product Dimension to Page. This displays a list of products in the Page Selector.
For more information, see Setting up Totals in the Aggregator Panel.
  • Order is important. When multiple Dimensions are stacked or nested, it's recommended to put the most granular Dimension at the end.
  • You can have a Dimension in multiple sections. When a Dimension is present in Row or Column, and also in Page, selecting an Item in the Page Selector automatically filters the grid. It displays only the selected Item in the corresponding row or column.

Add Group Dimensions

When a Dimension has a group Property, you can add it to the View by clicking the plus (+) sign. A group Property can be recognized by its format: the original Dimension name is followed by a greater than symbol (>) , which is then followed by the group Property name.

You can add a group Property as a Page Selector to make dynamic selections. When you select an Item from the group, the View automatically updates to show Items within that group.

For more information on group Properties, see Set up Properties in Lists

About Scenario Pivots

Scenario Pivot is automatically added to your Pivot panel in Columns. It might not be obvious when looking at a grid - this is because the header might not be displayed if only one Scenario is selected.

An Always Show header icon is available on the Scenario Pivot that you can toggle on and off to show the name of your Scenario even if only one is selected. You cannot move Scenario into Pages because the Scenario Selector is always present.

Pivot on Tables

When using Pivot on a Table, a new section called Metrics is available in the Configure Data panel.  Additionally, the number of Metrics in the Table is displayed, this in the format of N Metrics, for example 3 Metrics.

Use the menu (...) to the right of this entry to control if the Metrics are located in the Rows, Columns or Pages. The Metrics section beneath it controls the order of the Metrics in Rows or Columns. Drag and drop the Metric to the order you want.

To change the order of Items in Pages, Rows, or Columns, use the Sort feature. For more information see, Sorting Data in Pigment.

To adjust the order or Calculated Items, or Show Values As calculations, use the Calculations tab in the Configure Data panel. For more information, see Reordering Calculations in Pigment

Pivot on Lists

You cannot use Pivot on Lists, however a similar functionality is available.

When a List is displayed, Properties appear in columns. However you can click Properties in the Block header to open the Configure Data panel and reorder these.

To add group Properties to your View, use the plus (+) sign next to Pages or Groups. Additionally, you can set a List as its own Page Selector, allowing Members to focus on one Item at a time.

If you want to hide a Property from a View, click the menu (...) next to the Property and select Remove from View. You can save this View and publish it on a Board when you’ve finished reordering.
