Month after month, Pigmenauts share challenges, ideas, and solutions that help us all learn and grow together.

To celebrate this knowledge sharing, here are February’s top 5 questions. We’re highlighting the ones that sparked the most interest and views from fellow members 💡.

Whether you faced the same challenge or want to learn new tips, these threads are a great place to explore, contribute, and connect.

  1. Aggregate a formula

Question -@msouss:

“I have three metrics: Capa Test (Macro Resources, Month), Charge Test (Macro Resources, Macro Item, Month), and Saturation Test = Capa Test / Charge Test.

When I use multi-selection, the KPI ‘Saturation Test’ doesn’t display the expected aggregated result (e.g. 132/185 ≈ 71%). How can I aggregate this formula to get the expected result?”

Best Answer - @Francesca Royal:

Instead of dividing the metrics directly, you can use Show value as → % of → Metric.

Steps:

  1. Create a table including both Capa Test and Charge Test
  2. Add Capa Test again
  3. Select Show value as → % of → Charge Test

This will return the expected 71%. You can then rename this value as Saturation Test.

It’s recommended to keep all three values visible to confirm the calculation (132, 185, and 71%).

  1. How can i set up a Dynamic Variable item for Local Currency default?

Question -@MKSMPB:

“I want to create a variable item to use as a default filter on my Boards. It should default to the local currency of the selected subsidiary. I’ve tried using mapping metrics and booleans, but neither are available when setting up the variable. How can I make this work?”

Best Answer - @Julie Guérin:

It’s currently not possible for one page selector to dynamically influence the default selection of another.

If this functionality would support your use case, consider submitting a Product Idea so the Product team can evaluate the request and its potential impact.

  1. Ranking based on occurrence of sales order for an account for the quarter

Question -@Rushi:

“I have transaction data with Quarter, Account, and Sales Order. I need to rank accounts based on the occurrence of sales orders by quarter, assigning increasing ranks each time an account has activity in a new quarter.”

Best Answer -@Gigi:

You can achieve this using the RANK() function, structuring the calculation so that ranking increments by quarter when sales orders occur for an account.

It’s also recommended to review the Rank function documentation in the Help Center to explore additional configuration options and refine the logic for your specific model setup.

  1. Snapshot FX locked at time of snapshot and cannot be recalculated with updated FX tables

Question -@Ta-Wing:

“When we snapshot forecasts converted from local currency to USD using an FX table, the conversion is locked at the FX rate active at the time of snapshot. If new FX rates are loaded later, the snapshot cannot be recalculated. What’s the best practice here?”

Best Answer -@Stef:

By design, snapshot data is locked and will not automatically recompute with updated FX rates.

However, you can now import data from metrics out of a snapshot, recompute it using updated FX rates, and then use the recently released Slice functionality to compare results if needed.

  1. Automations

Question -@tjain02:

“Can a notification be triggered even when the Automation has been turned off? I’ve been receiving emails even though notifications are disabled and there’s no model history indicating changes.”

Best Answer -@Julie Guérin:

If notifications are disabled or automations are not activated, they should not trigger.

To investigate:

  • Check the Execution History
  • Confirm no similar automation is active in another application
  • Verify workspace-level notification settings

If the issue persists, it’s recommended to contact Support so they can investigate the source of the notifications.
