Hello Pigment Team,

I’ve been testing various tables with large amounts of data to determine the maximum number of cells allowed. In my experiments, I’ve created tables with 1,000 metrics, 500 metrics, and 200 metrics, each dimensioned by weeks (208) and lists (5,000 records). Initially, I aimed to create a table with 5,000 metrics dimensioned by 208 weeks and a list of 1,048,576 records, but this did not work as expected.

I’ve noted that applying “Dynamic Filters” doesn’t resolve the issue. Even when my dynamic filter shows only one selection, no data appears and I receive the error message: “Unable to load content for the current view. If the error persists, please contact technical support.

Is it more challenging to handle a larger number of metrics compared to a larger number of records in a dimension list? Do dynamic filters account for the “hidden” data they contain? What are the capabilities of Pigment in this context?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi @A_Garneri,

I don’t know the limitation in terms of number of metric in a table but the most I’ve used in a table is around 50.
In which context would you want to add 5000 metrics in a table ? Could you provide the end goal you’re trying to achieve ?

Hi A_Garneri,

Hope you’re doing well.

I’m not sure if you’re still experiencing this issue, but I’m interested as to why you are trying to create a table with so many metrics. I am yet to encounter a situation where this would be necessary - are you sure you cannot leverage one or multiple dimension lists to signicantly reduce the number of metrics here?

Pigment currently has a limit of 1 million viewable cells in a given grid, which I believe is quite generous. This is specifically a view limit rather than a calculation or storage limit, and it is enforced to ensure browser performance is optimised.

On the off-chance you encounter this restriction, you can try some of the below actions to reduce the size of the view:

  1. Apply one or multiple filters to the view (e.g. ‘hide empty rows and columns’)
  2. Add one or multiple dimensions to the Pages, and set these as ‘Single selector’ in the page options
  3. Split the view up into multiple views, and publish these as separate widgets

Hope this helps
