Introduction:

Hello Pigmenteers! I’m Clément ( @CDALMAY  in the community). I’m based in New York, where I’ve been living for the past seven years. I’ve been working with MeltOne for nearly three and a half years now and over the last decade my career has been focused on FP&A and financial planning tools.

I started out with Oracle-based solutions, transitioned to Tagetik as a technical architect, and then discovered Pigment in 2022. Since then, I’ve been mainly focused on Pigment, with about three years of hands-on experience which is half the lifespan of the platform itself!

What advice would you give to someone new to FP&A or Pigment?

Always be curious and willing to learn new things. You’ll make mistakes, that’s part of the process, but hands-on experience is the best teacher. Don’t be shy

For those new to Pigment: start with the Academy. It’s structured, practical, and a great foundation. Pigment is easier to learn than many legacy tools, and its intuitive interface makes it ideal for users from all backgrounds. You won't be an expert but it’s a good start.

And my advice for new people trying to break into the industry, I’d say the first step is networking. Just connect with someone on LinkedIn who’s already in the field and ask questions. Most people are happy to talk about their job and share what they do day to day. Personally, I enjoy teaching and sharing feedback (maybe that’s why I love the Pigment community so much). I’d encourage anyone to reach out, don’t be shy. Be curious and eager to engage with new people.

And sure, some people might not respond right away but keep trying. That’s something I really appreciate about the U.S. mindset. It’s okay to make mistakes and keep trying. In France, we tend to be more hesitant, we don’t like to try unless we know we won’t fail. There’s a big cultural difference between France and the U.S. on that front.

What’s the most interesting part of your job?

As a consultant, I work with a wide variety of companies. From SaaS to cosmetics, insurance, construction, and even consumer goods. No two projects are the same, and I love the diversity of industries and challenges.
