I am receiving an error “xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is not a valid unix username” when trying to establish an SFTP connection. The username is quite long - 27 characters. The connection works in other SFTP clients like Filezilla using the exact same parameters. Any ideas?

Hi @geoff_chovaz,

Could you please check whether the username you're using contains any uppercase letters?

If so, try updating it to lowercase and let us know if that resolves the issue.

Looking forward to your update.

SFTP users names are case sensitive and this user does in fact have upper case (it was auto generated by ADP for our client) Are you saying that Pigment won’t accept a username with upper case letters?

Hi @geoff_chovaz,

Yes, that behavior is consistent with how Pigment is currently configured. Our team has aligned the username setup with UNIX conventions, which enforce the use of lowercase usernames.

We’ve submitted a request to update our Community Article to better clarify this requirement for all users. Additionally, we’ve shared your feedback with our Product Team to re-evaluate the current restrictions around mandatory lowercase usernames.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance in the meantime.

Thanks,
Gabriel
