Month after month, Pigmenauts share challenges, ideas, and solutions that help us all learn and grow together.

To celebrate this knowledge sharing, here are June’s top 5 questions. We’re highlighting the ones that sparked the most interest and views from fellow members 💡.

Whether you faced the same challenge or want to learn new tips, these threads are a great place to explore, contribute, and connect.

  1. Scenario

Question - @Yaejis:

“I copied a table into another application, but the Scenarios are no longer available to select. Is there something I need to enable?”

Best Answer -@Julie Guérin:

Snapshots cannot be converted into Scenarios.

As a workaround, create a new (or use an existing) Scenario or Version in the live application, then use a Pigment-to-Pigment import to reload the required data from the Snapshot into the relevant blocks.

  1. Headcount Reporting with Variances

Question -@jjungerheld:

“I’m looking to create a table showing MTD Actual, Budget, Prior Year, and variance calculations, then repeat the same comparisons for December. I tried using AI to generate a formula, but the table came back blank.”

Best Answer - @Gigi:

Rather than using one long formula, build the report with Calculated Items (or helper metrics).

Create your base metrics for MTD Actual, MTD Budget, and MTD Prior Year, then calculate variances using simple subtraction. For December comparisons, create separate lines filtered to the required month.

If your table is blank, common causes include time granularity mismatches, missing version data, or calculation priority issues.

  1. Current year automated

Question - @Nancy Mehrotra:

“I have a metric named Current Year with a Year data type and no dimensions. Is there a way to have it automatically update every year?”

Best Answer -@CDALMAY:

Yes! You can create a Year metric and a corresponding Boolean metric to identify the current year, then use them as variables throughout your Boards and tables.

For full automation, you can also create a Today metric and use:

TIMEDIM(Today, Year)

This automatically updates the selected year based on the current date.

  1. Variance 5 wrong for one metric and right for another

Question - @Nancy Mehrotra:

“I have a table with five metrics, including two percentage metrics created using ‘Show value as → % of metric’. One percentage metric calculates variance correctly, but the other doesn’t, even though both use the same method. What could be causing this?”

Best Answer - @Min Li:

Check the order of your calculated items.

Sometimes, the order matters if it doesn’t produce the right number.

  1. Date setting in Microsoft Edge

Question - @remi f:

“I’ve set my Edge browser language to English (not English US), but dates in Pigment still display in MM/DD/YYYY format. How can I change this?”

Best Answer -@KeeganSF:

Pigment uses your browser’s preferred language and regional settings to determine the date format.

To display dates as DD/MM/YYYY, add a region such as English (United Kingdom), move it to the top of your preferred languages in Edge, and reload Pigment. If the issue persists, check that English (United States) isn't taking priority or review your Windows regional settings if your device is managed by your organization.
