Hello, very new to Pigment. I am looking to create a table that shows headcount for CY MTD Act, MTD Bud, MTD PY, Var Act CY MTD vs MTD Bud, Var Act CY MTD vs MTD PY. Then repeat everything for Dec 2026 (compare to Dec Bud and Dec 2025). Looking for a formula to type in the formula bar so this will happen. I worked with the AI chat and it did it for me but the the whole chart was blank

Headcount Reporting with Variances

Hi there! Thank you for your question.
In Pigment, one of the easiest ways to build this is usually Calculated Items (or helper metrics), not one long “formula bar” expression.
1) Create the 3 base lines (MTD):
- CY MTD Act =
MTD(Headcount)on Version = Actual - CY MTD Bud =
MTD(Headcount)on Version = Budget - CY MTD PY =
MTD(Headcount)on Actual + Prior Year offset (time or version, depending on your model)
2) Create variances (simple subtraction):
- Var Act vs Bud =
CY MTD Act - CY MTD Bud - Var Act vs PY =
CY MTD Act - CY MTD PY
3) For Dec-2026 comparisons (fixed month):
Create lines filtered to Dec 2026 / Dec 2025 (not MTD), then:
- Dec Var vs Bud =
Dec 2026 Act - Dec 2026 Bud - Dec Var vs PY =
Dec 2026 Act - Dec 2025 Act
If everything shows blank, common causes are: time granularity mismatch, missing version data at that intersection, or calculation priority/order issues.
Here’s some further resources and references to help you:
