Merely displayed vs. computed-in-formula in a snapshot

When Application A's board displays a metric shared from Application B via a Library/cross-application reference, and that reference is used directly in a view rather than wrapped inside a local formula in Application A — does taking a Snapshot of Application A freeze that displayed value as of snapshot time? Or does opening the Snapshot later still show Application B's current live value for that metric? Does the answer differ if the shared value is instead consumed inside a local formula in Application A before being displayed?

Hi Khai,

In both cases, the value is frozen when the Snapshot is created.

When you take a Snapshot of Application A, Pigment automatically includes the dependent blocks referenced from other applications. Therefore:

  • If the metric from Application B is displayed directly in a view, the Snapshot displays its value as of the Snapshot time.
  • If that metric is first consumed in a local formula in Application A, the resulting value is also frozen as of the Snapshot time.

Opening the Snapshot later will not cause either version to retrieve Application B’s current live value. There is therefore no difference between the two approaches for this purpose.

I hope this helps!
